About Salty After Fifty
Meet Dan Smith, Prompt Engineer & Builder

Hi, I'm the creator of Salty After Fifty—a site born from a mix of tech, curiosity, and the relentless pursuit of better health. I've developed a strong desire to challenge the status quo—especially the myths we've been fed about health, aging, and nutrition. Along the way, I've uncovered simple, science-backed hacks that can dramatically improve our well-being, many of which are far easier than we've been led to believe. The truth is, lasting health isn't complicated—but the systems keeping us sick often are.
The Tech Background
I've worked in the information technology industry since the mid-1990s, spending twelve of those years with early-stage software startups. It was in those fast-moving, high-risk environments that I discovered my entrepreneurial flame. That same drive—to build, to question, to optimize—is what fuels this site today.
The Health Awakening
For most of my adult life, I believed I was reasonably healthy. But that illusion cracked when I took a closer look at what we've been eating. I realized that many of the chronic health issues we now accept as normal—obesity, insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome—are not inevitable. They are, in many cases, preventable. The deeper I dug, the clearer it became: the modern food system is not designed to keep us well.
The Transformation
In the fall of 2024, I committed to a ketogenic lifestyle. Within two months, I lost 20 pounds—much of it was that visceral fat, the dangerous kind that clings to the midsection, surrounds organs, and silently contributes to disease. But more importantly, I felt sharper, lighter, and more in control of my health than I had in years. My blood pressure stabilized and my biomarkers for longevity started to improve.
The Vision Behind Salty After Fifty
That transformation sparked the vision behind Salty After Fifty—a platform dedicated to exploring metabolic health, questioning the status quo, and using technology to provide smarter, data-driven tools and resources. Here, you'll find health calculators, insightful blog posts, and tools to help you track and improve your own health journey.
What It Means to Stay Salty
Being "salty" isn't about being bitter—it's about having the edge, the wisdom, and the guts to challenge what doesn't make sense, especially when it comes to how we fuel and care for our bodies after fifty. This site is for those of us who aren't ready to fade quietly into the background. We're still learning, still growing, still pushing limits.
Let's live intentionally, age intelligently, and stay salty.
